1950's bathroom tile in mauve color..what colour scheme to go with it?? - bathroom colour schemes purple

Ok I'm trying to update our bathroom is terrible! In two of the walls around the tub and toliet and sink, half tiled wall of the bathroom is at this time. The color is pink, purple book. It would be too expensive for us to get the color you could paint the walls to compliment the tile to replace it? Also mentioned is a friend, just to the tile by wooden panels. What do you think of this idea? I do not know exactly how the idea of wood panels in the bathroom, but I know there are many different styles, which would work. Suggestions please!
